LONDON (AFP) - Former Manchester united and England midfielder Paul Scholes has been appointed officer of Oldham Athletic, the club announced upon Monday (Feb 11).Scholes, 44, is taking upon his first managerial role, signing a concord bearing in mind the club he supported as a guy after spending his entire playing career at antiquated Trafford.The former Premier League club are languishing in mid-table in League Two, the fourth tier of the English game. "Oldham supple are delighted to believe to be footballing legend Paul Scholes as the supplementary first-team officer upon a one-and-a-half-year-deal," the club said in a statement."I couldn't be any happier at the minute," Scholes told Oldham's ascribed website. "It's been a while. Obviously there's been talk of it bearing in mind I curtains my (playing) career."It wasn't something I was quite ready to attain and there's obviously been three or four period over the last six years where it could have happened and I've not been quite ready." Scholes, a devotee of Manchester United's famed "Class of '92" to the side of David Beckham and Ryan Giggs, said he wanted to make laugh Oldham's fans."I desire my team to be harsh and focused upon winning first and foremost," he said.
